Natasha Keith, seven years after the U.S. Student award
News — By admin on October 14, 2011 at 7:32 PMReceiving a Fulbright fellowship in 2004 allowed Natasha Keith to spend a year interning at Fundación Instituto Leloir . This was a turning point in Natasha’s life, which led her to seek admission at UC Berkeley for graduate studies in Biochemistry. After years of full dedication to the field, in December, 2010 Natasha finished her PhD in Chemistry (with a specialty in biophysics). Instead of moving on in the traditional industry-or-academia tracks that most chemists explore, she decided to try something different: Science Policy: Natasha received a fellowship from the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) that will take her to work for two years at the U.S. State Department. Natasha will be working on subjects related to bio fuels, predominantly in Latin America. “It is a thrill for me to be able to use some of my Latin American experiences (as well as my Spanish), and I continually look back and thank my Fulbright Fellowship for setting me in this direction”, said Natasha recently.
While she was here in Argentina in 2004, Natasha volunteered to travel to Corrientes, a remote city in the Northeast of the country, to talk to undergraduate students about her combined interest in humanities and basic sciences. Many of those students had never been in contact with young Americans, and Natasha’s talk inspired some of them to sharply change their plans and seek an education abroad. We are very grateful to Natasha for being so inspiring to students of Argentina.
